Continuing the chicken theme…
You just got to wonder what marketing wizard thought up this: “Hey Fellas! Let’s stuff a helpless bird until its liver bursts, poach the liver in mold, cut it into slices or make some goop, then throw a rakish hat on it! Who doesn’t want to eat THAT!?”

“I’m fresh, good and fast” — sounds hot (haha, pun!), but not coming from a chicken. And an apparently “angelic” on, to boot.

Read this article about changes the Texas State Board of Education made this spring.

And this one broke my heart: The board removed the concepts of “justice” and “responsibility for the common good” from a list of characteristics of good citizenship for Grades 1-3. (The proposal to remove “equality” failed.) (1/14/10)

It is clear why right-wing christians would be afraid of justice and “the common good,” but it makes me sad. Today I have to lean on one of my favorite guiding principles: “It is not incumbent on you to complete the task, but neither are you free to desist therefrom…”(Talmud, Avot 2:21).
